IIG Forum demand for 4 datacenters in Dhaka with government assistance
The IIG Forum will give an account of the damage within two days
There were 11 IIG (International Internet Gateway) institutions in the 14-storey Khawaja Tower at Mohakhali in the capital. From there, more than 150 ISPs were providing internet services at customer level with bandwidth. It is said that more than 55 percent of the parts of these institutions have become useless in the event of fire. Although the building was not ideal for data center or bandwidth distribution, it became a small hub for internet transmission due to lack of a single space within Dhaka. But this situation is not at all sustainable in terms of business, service or meeting national needs, opined the IIG Forum Secretary General Ahmed Junayed.
He said that, traders were forced to do business in such unsafe places and now they are facing huge losses. While talking to DigiBangla, he said, "We have asked for reports from each organization to accurately assess the amount of damage." I will be able to publish this report within the next two days, Inshallah. However, before receiving this report, we are seeking help from the government to set up four data centers in Dhaka city. If it was like this, it would not have been in such danger. If the IIGs that were damaged had backups in secondary or tertiary data centers, the damage would have been minimized and they would have been able to return to service faster. As an advance protection from such a situation, we hope that the government will set up at least one data center in each division outside Dhaka or take steps for this.
When asked why they are not going to Gazipur instead of Dhaka, Junayed said, it is not business friendly with NTTN's transmission cost.
According to sources, due to the fire, Itel, Max Hub, Aamra Networks, Earthnet, Virgo, and Winstream, Earth, Global Fair were completely shut down. However, with the backup of major IIGs and ISX such as Pyrex, Link 3, Level 3, Fiber@home, Summit and IECC IPTSP, the companies started to handle themselves and provide customer service quickly. And the entire work is being done from an external data center.
